About ISCCJ

The Icelandic Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ISCCJ) was founded on 13 January 2003 at the then newly established Icelandic Embassy in Tokyo.  From the beginning the organization has been focused on supporting and facilitating trade between Icelandic and Japanese companies.
Due to globalization and the complexity of international business, the business itself may or may not be focused on products or services originating in the respective countries.
The Chamber is open to all companies, organizations and individuals interested in the above.  As per the current focus of the chamber itself, our main areas of interest are clean energy, seafood and fisheries and last but not least tourism.  These areas correlate to Iceland’s government’s focus in the post financial crisis environment.
By no means is the chamber limited to those fields, and is in fact very much interested and has corporate members from fields such as textiles, heavy machinery and international shipping.  In fact some of Japan’s oldest and most prestigious corporations are members of our chamber.

Message from the Chairman

It is a true pleasure to be addressing you all as the new Chairman of the ISCCJ.  It is also with a heavy heart that I must recognize the dire straits of the Icelandic economy and business environment.

It is however the view of the Chairman that with Iceland´s abundance of natural resources,
strong tourism appeal and renewable clean energy the country will recover remarkably early from these incredibly challenging times.

Iceland´s educated and vibrant young workforce can and will emerge from the ashes and
create a bright economic future for this volcanic island that has seen hardship all through the ages.During this turnaround phase, the ISCCJ will be there to support and foster opportunities between Iceland and Japan´s large and small corportations.

By utilizing Iceland´s natural resources and Japan´s know how and skills, the 21st century is bound to be bright.

20 August 2008

Arni Pall Einarsson, ISCCJ Chairman
